Daily Indie Trailer Insights – Moonlight Official Trailer 1 (2016)

Fandango Movieclip Channel describe it as

The tender, heartbreaking story of a young man’s struggle to find himself, told across three defining chapters in his life as he experiences the ecstasy, pain, and beauty of falling in love, while grappling with his own sexuality.

What the trailer tells us

Identity crisis, drugs, falling in love – this film looks to encapsulate a painful ‘coming of age’ story. What a creepy sound track surrounding this trailer but it works.

The era of this film is during the “War on Drugs” in Miami and you can see that during the trailer the boy is going through a lot of trial and tribulations in order for him to grow. You get the sense that the young man has a lot of undesirable influences in his life and as Fandango describe it the film will be split up into 3 acts: ecstasy, pain, and beauty of falling in love. Surrounding all these chapters will be the young man grappling with his own sexuality.

The start of the trailer starts so lightly to then suddenly becoming dark. This will not be for the light hearted. This will be a ‘coming of age’ story that at times will be uncomfortable to watch it. You do wonder from the trailer if there will be moments of elation and triumph as the young man looks pretty much depressed throughout the two minutes. This drama may serve an engaging perspective of a dysfunctional young man’s life.
